I’ve joined Brit Mum’s!

Apart from having some lovely neighbours for lunch and a playdate with my 2yo, I’ve managed to join Brit Mum’s today and – here is the exciting part – install a widget. I didn’t even know what a widget was 2 hours ago and now I’m all glowingly pleased with myself for installing one (its the pretty new image top right on my page). Happy hump day to everyone :)

A touch of Australia for my boys’ new cousin with these baby boots!

I must admit I struggle with finding the patience for socks and shoes on babies. In fact my baby mostly lives in baby grows for the reason that its now cold and he kicks socks off. Ive seen those little sock holdy on thingies and really must get some. Given that trying to get out of the house with a toddler, a baby and lively dog jumping around is a battle paramount to trying to balance jelly on a wet bouncy castle, my littlest man rarely gets to show his fashion savviness with shoes. He does, however, look pretty funky and stays nice and toasty warm in his little ugg boots. FYI Ugg boots to Australians are ‘ugly’ sheepskin boots to be worn as slippers. I must admit to letting my baby wear his outside the house. I think that is JUST about socially acceptable if you can’t yet walk – and get them soggy (like many an Ugg boot I’ve seen in London).

I hope the new addition likes his toasty boots as much as his cousins do :)

Here are the ones I bought.

Today my babies needed me more than HIIE did!

I started writing about HIIE which is an ongoing piece of work and shall soon be published – I forgot how much brain power and unbroken time reading research requires. Not conducive to also jiggling and feeding an unsettled baby, painting and taking my toddler to the zoo and making the most of hubby being on holiday. We had a good day though :)

Holy mackerel!

I’m eating fish again!! Good quality, whole fish jam packed with Omega 3 and other healthy goodies. “If it’s so good why did you stop” you ask. One word (or is it more?). BBQ! I dont like to cook fish inside in the summer because it smells. We recently bought a new BBQ so I dont even have to cook it. I just take it out of the freezer and place it in a rather obvious place in the kitchen – you girls know what I mean by an obvious place don’t you, like the middle of the floor or next to the beer ;) – and the husband miraculously stumbles across it. He then thinks ”me find fish (chest banging to ensue here), me cook fish for family”. Actually he even made a sauce for it last night so I should be a little more accommodating. Thank you husband! It was delicious. It may have even taken the edge of my hangover.

So why is this mackerel so good for us? And what is Omega 3 when it’s at home? Well the little mackerel swim around the sea chomping on some tasty algae then when they decide to grace our plates they are full of the algae containing omega 3. So yes you could just eat algae but I personally prefer the fish – cooked on the BBQ of course.

This Omega 3 is essentially a lubricant. It makes our nerves, arteries and skin and hair softer and more pliable. Like if you have a piece of wood and it gets all dried out you need to lubricate it or it will start to break apart. Not good if thats a nerve. That would make your movements all shaky and jagged. As for soft healthy hair – I could do with some of that! Along with a healthier scalp rather than the dried mess I currently have. I can thank breastfeeding for that. Ive even ordered some fish oil capsules to increase my dose and get my skin and scalp and hair all nice and glowy and healthy.

Hi there!

This is my first attempt at a blog post so please bear with me! It might be a little clumsy and lacking in focus, or simply a bit of a ramble but I hope it might soon become an easy read with some interesting topics for some. For whom though you may ask? Great question! I’m hoping to cover various topics surrounding health, nutrition, kids and being a Mum. So a kind of healthy mum healthy kids blog….let’s see how it pans out…
